Hyperbaric chamber therapy has many benefits for health and well-being. This modern treatment involves 100% pure medical oxygen combined with increased atmospheric pressure in the chamber. The increased pressure causes more oxygen particles to reach the cells in different parts of the body, which promotes rapid recovery. What does the hyperbaric chamber help with? What are the contraindications to using a hyperbaric chamber? Find the answers to these and other questions in the article.
A hyperbaric chamber is a modern medical device that is also referred to as a pressure vessel. It owes its second name to its method of operation, as it uses oxygen, which is administered to the patient in a sealed room that looks like a capsule. An elevated atmospheric pressure is maintained in the capsule. Treatments in the hyperbaric chamber can be carried out individually or in groups, depending on the size of the device.
At NAMI we have a multi-seat hyperbaric chamber that can accommodate 12 people at a time. The capacity of our unit is greater than the average 1 or 2-person chambers, allowing us to provide more intensive and effective therapy, the effects of which can be felt after just a few sessions.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy provides the body with significantly more oxygen than normal breathing. Oxygen penetrates not only the blood, but also the plasma, resulting in up to 1,200% higher oxygen concentrations in the body. As a result, it reaches the deep layers of tissues that need regeneration, saturates them and, as a result, activates repair processes. Hyperbaric therapy also stimulates the growth of new blood vessels in the body, which has a positive effect on the functioning of the nervous system and brain.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy supports the treatment of a variety of conditions and injuries. It is also used in holistic medicine focusing on restoring balance in the body through natural healing methods.
Our hyperbaric chamber is a device that reaches pressures of up to 6 ATA (absolute atmospheres). The pressure we most commonly use is 2.5 ATA, which allows us to treat a wide range of diseases and ailments. Both during and after the session, our medical staff are on hand to assist patients – they can report any complaints during the course of the therapy (which can then be discontinued) and benefit from a free post-treatment consultation.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions are conducted only after a prior medical consultation. The purpose of the visit to the specialist is to check the state of health and exclude possible contraindications to hyperbaric therapy. This is because hyperbaric chamber therapy poses a serious health risk for people suffering from pneumothorax, advanced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or certain ear and sinus conditions that may impede pressure equilibration. For precautionary reasons, oxygen therapy is also not recommended for pregnant women.

On the day of hyperbaric chamber therapy, each patient receives cotton outfit and a mask to breathe 100% oxygen. Our staff will explain the safety rules and prepare participants for the start of the session, which lasts 90 minutes.
While inside the chamber, gentle movements can be made while remaining seated. To pass the time, we encourage you to bring along your favourite reading or watch a film projected on a screen inside the chamber.
